How to Fix Canada's Deteriorated Physical Infrastructure Joshua Adams (McGill University) I will discuss Canada’s municipal infrastructure debt. The debt has arisen over time due to a lack of public investment. To cover costs, many governments have had to rely on the private sector, which has caused problems of pricing and accountability. Examples of deteriorated physical infrastructure in Quebec, and the steps taken to replace them, will be provided. Moving forward, municipalities should invest in less-intensive infrastructure that is cheaper to maintain.
Using Vulnerability Indicators to Develop Resilience Networks in the Straight of Georgia: A Similarity Approach Michelle Marteleira (University of British Columbia) The objectives of the research are: To apply a newly developed method to measure the similarity between vulnerability profiles of a selected group of coastal communities in the Strait of Georgia region, with vulnerability indicators representing the different aspects of vulnerability to hazards; and to implement the method as an online interactive platform where those responsible for developing vulnerability reduction strategies can access research results as both numerical and visualized form.
