The Winnipeg Arts Council (www.winnipegarts.ca) and Urban Idea (www.urbanidea.ca) marked 2014 as the Year of Urban Ideas. Several projects were planned to engage citizens. The primary objective was to illustrate the connection between the arts and urban development.

One project, the City Builders Camp, brought together eleven high school students to learn more about architecture, urban design, public art, mapping, and how the municipal government works. Each day of the camp included lectures, field trips, and the creation of art projects. This presentation will discuss the mechanics of the camp, the lessons learned, and where the camp fits in the process of engaging youth, and their imaginations, in planning processes.
